OUR SPEAKER: JUDD APATOW

APATOW_Color

Judd Apatow writes and produces hilarious and beloved comedies that explore universal heartbreak, using humor as a vehicle to understand and reveal the collectiveness of our experiences. Judd uses the power of storytelling – and comedy – as catharsis, not just for his characters, but for us all.

As a fan of Jim Hollis, The Jung Center’s Director Emeritus, Judd told The New York Times that Jim’s book, Why Good People Do Bad Things, can still be found on his nightstand. Judd has written and directed such films as This Is 40, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and Trainwreck. He also produced Academy Award-nominated The Big Sick, Bridesmaids, Anchorman, Step Brothers, Talladega Nights, and the Emmy Award-winning HBO series Girls. This past summer, Brené Brown interviewed Judd on her podcast Unlocking Us.

Judd is married to the actress Leslie Mann (The Other Woman, This is 40). He is the author of the New York Times bestseller Sick In the Head: Conversations About Life and Comedy, and It’s Gary Shandling’s Book, a collection of journal entries and essays by Judd’s mentor, Gary Shandling.

OUR HONOREES: SUSAN AND LEE HANCOCK

We are delighted to be honoring Susan and Lee for their tremendous contributions to The Jung Center. Throughout his more than fifteen years of service on the Board of Trustees, Lee’s no-nonsense, deeply wise counsel and hands-on project management has been critical to the growth of the Center. As founder of the architecture and construction company Synchro, he has been an instrumental force in the growth of the Houston community. Susan, whose commitment to the growth of Houston included service as the executive director of the nonprofit Trees of Hope, is the owner of the boutique Tres Chic. Reading Carl Jung brought Lee to The Jung Center, and he and Susan continue to regularly attend classes at the Center.
