An Evening of Origami

Acclaimed local origami artist Joan Son leads this introduction to the ancient art of paperfolding.

Thursday, July 29
6 - 9 pm
$50 ($45 Jung Center members)
Limit: 12

Learn the gentle art of origami. This art form dates back to the creation of paper more than 1500 years ago. Its rich history is based in sacred ceremony and artistic reflection on nature. We can find harmony as we transform a simple sheet of paper, in a process that cultivates precision and a sense of awe - part geometry and part Zen. Students will be introduced to the basics of paperfolding. Birds, containers, butterflies, frogs and flowers are just a few of the models you will learn. Suitable for anyone with an interest in origami. Age 13 to adult. Materials are included in the registration fee.

Joan Son's interest in origami began as a teenager in the 1960's. In 1993 her professional career debuted in the windows of Tiffany & Co. She has created numerous large scale installations for public and private venues as well as small works for museum shops including the Smithsonian in Washington DC. Studying with masters from around the world, she is a member of Origami USA and teaches at their conferences in New York. Visit her website at www.joanson.com.
