How did the religiosity of Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcolm X shape the major themes that surface in their writing and speeches? These two pivotal figures in the Civil Rights Movement made unique contributions to the religious and theoretical underpinning of freedom struggles in the United States, and their work sparked important conversation concerning the methods, goals, and consequences of struggle toward civil rights and 'liberation.' We will explore the ways these two leaders influenced the Civil Rights Movement as it challenged prevailing visions of democracy.
